Promotion in sight

CHATTERIS need just one win from their final two games of the season to make sure of promotion from CCA Senior Division 2.

They ran out easy six-wicket winners against Yelling on Saturday and really should get that vital win against Girton at home this weekend.

Yelling won the toss and elected to bat first but struggled against the Chatteris bowlers Ant Palmer, Andy Wood, Peter Munns and Ant Bamford early on and in the end posted only 133 for eight in their 45 overs.

The 13-year-old Jake Kaval also bowled well and picked up one wicket. Palmer took three wickets and Wood and Munns two each.

Opener Kurt Cunningham scored 48 and Dom Platt 23 and Chatteris had few problems as they reached 134 for four.

Chatteris seconds lost to Wimblington first team by 116 runs.

Wimblington reached 207 for seven with Ashley Irvine 58 and he was well supported by Oliver Fox 31, Adam Westwood 25 and Dave Pomfrett 21, Mark Leach took three for 27 and James Fraser two for 36.

Chatteris were bowled out for 91 with Leach 29, Karl Anderson 22 and Josh Grant 13 their only players to reach double figures. Jason Bullman took three wickets and Adrian Bussey, Ashley Irvine and Adam Westwood two each.

On Sunday in another local derby Chatteris beat Doddington by six wickets in the Fenland Trophy.

Doddington scored 148 for eight with Pat O’Connor 29, Ryan Wright 24 and Scott Bamford 23. Jake Kaval, Kristian Bron and Mark Leach took two wickets each.

Chatteris openers Ben Perry 57 not out and Cameron Brown 25 gave the reply a good send off and they reached 150 for four.
