Wisbech Town 4 Olney 2

Wisbech Town moved into the Chroma Sport & Trophies United Counties League Cup semi-final, but the gloss was taken off the victory by Steven Reid’s broken leg.

Underdogs Olney had levelled at 2-2 in Saturday’s quarter-final before late goals from Billy Smith and Adam Millson sealed the tie for the Fenmen at the Elgood’s Fenland Stadium.

Smith struck in the third minute, but just a few minutes later came the blow to former Chatteris Town midfielder Reid.

He was taken to hospital with a bad double break to his lower leg and was due to have an operation on Monday. Rob Hughes came off the bench on the quarter-hour mark.

Millson made it 2-0 on 20 minutes, but in the second half Olney – whose boss Steve Kuhne was named UCL Division One Manager of the Month for December after six wins on the bounce – pegged it back to 2-2.

However, Millson got his second and Smith also completed his brace to send the Fenmen through.

The kick-off had been delayed by 10 minutes as the referee wanted more work doing to the North End goalmouth.

Wisbech: Butcher; Whyatt, Watson, Wilson; Johnson, Millson, Reid (R. Hughes 15), Hipwell; Smith, Frew, Cobb. Subs: Brand, Sparrow.

Attendance: 144.

Wisbech Reserves went top of the ChromaSport & Trophies Peterborough & District League Division One with a 3-1 win at Peterborough ICA Sports Reserves.

This was thanks to scorers Neil Goodbourn 2 and sub Jacob Smith at South Bretton Playing Fields. Wisbech are two points ahead of Stamford Lions, who have two games in hand.
