Ringham helps notch first March win of season
Former skipper Chris Ringham starred as March Town CC won their first Cambs Tucker Division One match of the season to move out of the drop zone.
Ringham and wicketkeeper Scott Welcher featured in a vital last-wicket stand of 32 in the March total of 164 before left-armer Ringham took 5-29 – his first ‘five-fer’ in two years – to set up a 22-run victory over Saffron Walden seconds.
Kiwi import Ash Vadnola hit 62 and bagged two wickets with his off-spin.
The hosts Wisbech recovered from 86-7 to 175-7 to claim a draw versus Nassington at Harecroft Road. Jamie Gollands (55 not out) and Tom Meyrick (33 not out) put on an undefeated eighth-wicket stand of 89.
Nassington opener Dan Robinson carried his bat for 122 of Nassington’s 239-9, home skipper Gary Freear bagging 6-48.
Robinson had also notched a ton against Wisbech (101 no) the previous week in Rutland Division One.
A brutal knock of 94 from Rob Tombs set up the 2nds for their first CCA Senior League Division 1 success of the campaign, pipping Buntingford by just 15 runs at The Avenue.
Tombs struck 13 boundaries in the 195-7 total, backed by Steve Hinson (33) and Dan Martell (28).
Martell (3-14) picked up wickets at a vital time. Tombs, Adrian Bussey and the impressive James Beresford all took a couple of wickets, as Buntingford were dismissed for 180.
March Sunday 2nd XI, the reigning Fenland Trophy champions, started their campaign in the same way as last season – defeat at The Avenue against Ramsey.
The visitors posted 156-9, with Dan Waltham taking 4-37, Charlie Revell 3-39 and Will Curtis 1-19 from eight overs. Despite opening batsman Stephen Wallis’s 52, March fell 42 runs short.
Man of the Match: Dan Waltham.
