In perfect conditions, both teams were slow to get off the mark.

In the 14th minute St Ives were awarded a penalty when March failed to release and slotted it over to go into a 0-3 lead.

March, however, struck back five minutes later when Brooks scored the first of his hat-trick of tries. The score came from a great move through several phases and a pass which he took at full speed to go under the posts.

On 28 minutes Howells then ran in a try after St Ives made a mistake and allowed March turnover ball.

Three minutes later Boxall was yellow carded for repeat offences.

St Ives used the man advantage to score two tries before half-time, neither of them converted, giving them a 13-12 lead at the break.

After the break it was a different story as March ran in four tries, three of them converted by the ever-reliable Porter.

The first of the batch was from Coetzer stepping through several tackles, followed by a battering ram attack by the March forwards, with Burke going over the line.

The third score came from Brooks who managed to run round the St Ives defence and finish up under the posts.

The fourth effort was from a mistake by St Ives allowing Coetzer to intercept and disappear under the sticks.

March made a raft of substitutions with the score at 38-13, but then had Pyke yellow carded for not using his arms in a tackle.

With this disadvantage St Ives then scored two tries, one of which they converted, but it was all too little, too late.

The final nail was Brooks completing his treble after a very good backs movement and taking the score to 45-25 with a minute to go.

Man of the match: Knight who battered St Ives all afternoon.
