Wisbech RUFC start rugby pre-season with friendly loss to West Norfolk and name David Wadsley as captain

By Pete Woodhouse

Wisbech RUFC started their pre-season campaign on Saturday with a friendly derby loss against local rivals West Norfolk.

Director of rugby Leonard Veenendaal said: "Although we took a big squad to West Norfolk and lost there was plenty of positives to take from the game especially as we were missing some key players.

"I thought that we were excellent for the first twenty minutes and dominated the play, but when we started to make rolling substitutes we started to lose our shape."

Veenendaal said that "We are hoping to see some of the Colts play in either the first team or Wildcats as last year it was pleasing to see 9 or 10 of them move into adult rugby.

"This year's plan has to be to finish in the top half of the table."
