Wisbech St Mary FC are sorting through managerial applications after the resignation of first team boss Alex Kaufman and his assistant Ash Taylor.

Cambridgeshire Premier title contenders Cambridge University Press confirmed at the weekend that Kaufman has joined them, and the former Histon and Chatteris boss took charge for their 2-0 home loss to Foxton.

The Saints said in a statement: “The club is disappointed to announce that Alex Kaufman has left his position as first team manager.

He leaves for various personal and coaching reasons, including providing the opportunity for the club to bring in a more local manager.

“We would like to place on record our thanks to Alex for his hard work during his tenure and wish him well for the future.”

Joe Woolford, who has joined CUP, Jake Miller and striker Corey Kingston, who revealed that he is leaving Saints to join United Counties League Premier Division strugglers Pinchbeck United, have followed Kaufman out of the club, but tall Brazilian centre back Gus Mariano has signed for the Saints.

The club report that all other players remain as they continue their fight against relegation from the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League Division One North.

Saints club secretary Paul Albutt said: “Applications have been received. We are now going through the due process and when we’re in a position to announce, we will do.”

The news comes just a week after Brett Whaley left Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League First Division North rivals March Town United to join Wisbech Town, the Hares appointing Arran Duke.

Wisbech St Mary’s trip to Great Yarmouth Town, March Town’s trip to Haverhill Borough and Wisbech Town’s NPL South East home clash with Frickley (due to safety reasons following the loss of their stand last week to Storm Ciara) all fell victim to Storm Dennis or the weather.

The Fenmen on Saturday are due to travel to Lincoln United, while in the Thurlow Nunn League, March Town United entertain 14th-spot Leiston Res and Wisbech St Mary host eighth-place Ipswich Wanderers.
