Virtual half marathon, 56-mile challenge and winter duathlon
Three Counties Running Club members are still keeping their spirits high with lots of virtual runs, charity efforts and club challenges.
In December, Sarah-Jane Macdonald completed the Virtual Edinburgh Half Marathon.
Normally the Edinburgh half marathon starts in the grounds of one of the oldest Universities in the world and the incredible city centre start takes you through the very heart of Edinburgh with the iconic Edinburgh Castle as the backdrop. It meanders down the historic Royal Mile, heading towards and past the Scottish Parliament building. As you reach Musselburgh, you’ll run past the oldest golf course in the world.
With a 90 metre descent, it is one of the fastest half marathon routes in the world.
Instead Sarah-Jane took in the wonderful buildings of Wisbech and West Walton, seeing the local church, police station and Aldi - not quite the same but she still covered the 13.1 mile distance, in a time of 1:57:45.
Club member Mandy Doggett took part in a charity challenge to run 56 miles in February for Cancer Research UK. Mandy, who has recently started upping her miles, managed to completed the challenge in 11 days, also raising £100 for the charity.
Kersten Müller decided he needed a focus and challenged himself to his own lockdown challenge. He named his event ‘The Winter 21 Duathlon’ which consisted of a 10k run followed by a 40k cycle ride and then a 5k run.
Kersten completed his challenge in a fantastic time of 2:25:21.
