All-rounder has faced and played with Lasith Malinga and Dinesh Chandimal

By Pete Woodhouse

Saranga Rajaguru has arrived back in March this week ready for the new cricket season – having rubbed shoulders all winter with superstars of Sri Lankan Test match cricket.

The 26-year-old all-rounder, who bats left-handed and bowls leg-spin, flew into the UK on Wednesday for what will be his second campaign at The Avenue.

During his time away, he has both faced the fearsome pace, and played in the same side, as slingy Sri Lankan ace Lasith Malinga!

Also alongside him in the Nonedescript Cricket Club line-up was former Test skipper Dinesh Chandimal and a glut of players who have represented their country.

Rajaguru played in six first class matches – scoring three half-centuries and a top score of 94.

He also picked up 16 wickets.

Last season he helped March to seventh place and topped the Whiting League Division One bowling charts with 51 wickets, in addition to scoring 691 runs that included a glorious 138 at Ramsey.

Former Sunday 1st XI skipper Toby Nulty has returned to the club after two seasons at Chatteris Town.

Nulty played a big part in the Saturday 1st XI’s promotion from the old Tucker League Division 2 in 2016 – scoring 103 against Ufford Park.

March’s annual friendly against Downham Town is set for this Saturday (April 13). The first Whitings League match is home to Eaton Socon on Saturday, May 4 (12.30pm start).

Ten clubs will compete in the Cambridgeshire Premier Cricket League during 2019, with only one side relegated and one promoted from Whitings Division 2.

The 10 sides in Division 1 are: Cambridge, Eaton Socon, Foxton, Godmanchester, Histon, March, Ramsey, Sawston, Thriplow and Wisbech.

March 2nd XI have been promoted to CCA Senior League Div 1 and the club’s 3rd XI will again play in CCA Junior League Division 3N and the 4th XI in CCA Junior League Division 4N.
