A point for Saints but defeats for Fenmen and Hares

There were mixed fortunes for Fenland teams in their respective league games this afternoon.

Wisbech Town led 1-0 at Market Drayton in the Northern Premier League south east division, only to go down 2-1.

March Town led 2-0 at one stage away from home to high flying Mulbarton in the Thurlow Nunn League first division north but eventually lost 4-2.

In the same division, Wisbech St Mary gained their first home point of the season with a last minute equaliser against Great Yarmouth Town to draw 1-1.

New signing Charley Sanders put Wisbech 1-0 up at bottom-of-the-table Drayton after 14 minutes, but the home side equalised after 41 minutes and then scored an 80th minute winner. The Fenmen are now third from bottom.

Two goals from the prolific Jack Friend in the 40th and 62nd minutes saw the Hares leading 2-0 at second-placed Mulbarton. But Scott Callaghan was sent off for March after the second goal, leading to a comeback.

Jones, two from Page and one from Plumstead, saw Mulbarton net four times in just 14 minutes as they won 4-2, March ending the game with nine men after Danny Emmington was sent off in the final minute. The Hares have now slipped to seventh place.

Wisbech St Mary made it three draws out of three after losing their first 12 games. In a poor first half they trailed 1-0 after a 45th minute Yarmouth goal. However, a spirited second half performance saw Corey Kingston equalise in injury time. Yarmouth had a player sent off after 60 minutes for a headbutt on Kingston.

Chatteris Town are fourth from bottom of the Cambridgeshire County League Premier Division after a 2-1 defeat at fellow strugglers Hemingfords United.

In the Peterborough League Cup, Parson Drove returned to form with an 8-2 thumping of Eunice Huntingdon and Leverington Sports pulled off a great 2-1 win at Stamford Belvedere, but Sutton Bridge were thrashed 11-1 at Premiair. Long Sutton went down 4-1 at Moulton Harrox in the Lincs Junior Cup.
