Long Sutton in seventh heaven
Several games in the Peterborough and Cambridgeshire Leagues fell victim to the coronavirus this afternoon, but here's a round-up of the games which did go ahead.
Long Sutton followed up on Wednesday's encouraging home draw with Moulton Harrox with a 7-1 away thrashing of Oakham United in the Peterborough League premier division today.
Goals came from Jake Clitheroe (3), Matty Eaton (2), Callum Davies and an opposition player.
Leverington Sports also got an impressive result, drawing 0-0 at home to high-flying Peterborough North End Sports. Parson Drove's game at ICA Sports and Tydd's game at Ketton were both postponed.
In division three Tydd Reserves were beaten 4-2 at Farcet United, with both goals coming from Kai Scott-Henson.
Long Sutton Athletic Reserves won a penalty shoot-out 4-2 at Leverington Sports in the Peterborough Junior Cup after the two played out a goalless draw.
Parson Drove Reserves are through to their second final of the season after a Cambs Lower Junior Challenge Cup semi-final victory at Oakington Vikings. The game finished 1-1, with Drove triumphing 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out, goalkeeper Ashley Clarke saving three spot kicks.
Drove are already through to the final of the North Cambs Junior Cup, where they are due to play AFC Walpole at Wisbech Town's stadium on April 8.
In division 5A Long Sutton Athletic A's game against Huntingdon Town Development was postponed.
In the Cambridgeshire County League Kershaw Premier, Chatteris Town's game at Over Sports was postponed. In Kershaw Senior A, March Town Reserves won 3-1 at bottom side Fulbourn Institute Reserves.
In Kershaw Senior B Wisbech St Mary Reserves home game against Cambridge University Press Reserves was postponed, as was Chatteris Town Reserves' clash with Alconbury in Mead Plant & Grab 1B.
In Mead Plant & Grab 2B AFC Walpole extended their lead at the top to nine points with a 3-0 win at Wimblington, Joe Reed netting twice and Kieran Hamilton getting the other. Second place March Town A drew 1-1 at Soham United Youth. Wisbech Town Acorns lost 3-0 at third place Burwell Tigers. Wisbech St Mary A's game against Fordham Reserves was postponed.
In the Creake Charity Shield Final,Outwell Swifts won 5-1 against Hemingfords United Reserves on Friday evening.
In Mead Plant & Grab 3B, second place March Academy won 3-1 at Somersham Town Reserves, with goals from Luke Cable, Thomas Hinton and Charlie Revell. Fifth place Manea United prepared for their game with the Academy next week with a hard-fought 1-0 home win to The Eagle (Ely). Aiden Gray grabbed the early goal, which was followed up with a determined defensive display.
Benwick Athletic won 2-0 at Wickhambrook in the John Ablett Cup.
In Mead Plant & Grab 4C, the games between Christchurch Magpies and Little Downham & Pymoor and Littleport Town and Fen Tigers Engineers were postponed.
