Two local teams were involved in the first-ever T20 competition organised by the Rutland League on Sunday.
In a group of three, things started badly for March when they lost to host club Nassington by 60 runs. Stephen Shaw took 2-26 and James Beresford 2-22 in Nassington’s 134, with Shaw (22) and Josh Fox (14no) the main scorers in the all out total of 74.
Against Wisbech, March made 141-8.
After David Hodson picked up his second duck of the weekend against Wisbech, Shaw and Andy Wright (33) put on 85 for the second wicket. The Aussie hit a 26-ball 50 in his knock of 71, cracking 11 boundaries, including four sixes.
Wisbech replied with 119-8, with skipper Ben Pyle in a rare bowl taking the wicket of Alan Burton in his 2-13 spell.
March’s Saturday 2nd Xl had another woeful batting display – losing by 64 runs to CCA Senior League table-toppers Fulbourn at The Avenue.
James Fountain’s figures of 4-38 were the pick in the away side’s total of 165-8. Matty Vail’s 44 was the highlight of the 101 reply.
The 3rds lost by eight wickets to Granta 3rd in CCA Junior League Division 3N. March were bowled out for just 79 in their first home match of the season. Skipper David Haslegrave scored 25.
Granta knocked the runs off quite easily, with vice-captain Greg Short taking both wickets.
The 4ths maintained their top spot in CCA Junior League Division 5N, thanks to a nine-wicket home win over Wisbech 4ths.
Teenager Charlie Revell took 3-19 as the visitors were dismissed for just 66. Dennis Furnell then smashed 37 in reply.
