Shock as Brett Whaley leaves job as Wisbech Town manager

More news, no ads

Brett Whaley has left his post as Wisbech Town first team manager with immediate effect.

Although it is yet to be confirmed, I understand he will be announced as manager of fellow Northern Premier League Midland Division outfit Spalding United later today.

Fenmen chairman Paul Brenchley said: “We are obviously disappointed to lose Brett at such a pivotal time in the season but that’s what happens in football sometimes.

"However, his departure must not distract us from the main focus of improving our league position, starting with the visit of Soham Town Rangers on Monday.

"We wish Brett well for the future and look forward to welcoming him back to Fountain Fresh Park at some point."

A further statement will be issued later regarding the managerial arrangements going forward and who will take charge in the relegation battle against Soham on Monday.

A lot will depend on whether assistant manager Chris Lenton follows Whaley to the Tulips. If he does, former March Town boss and current coach Arran Duke would probably lead Wisbech on Monday.
