The annual Robert Lefevre Handicap tournament at March Squash and Racketball Club resulted in an exciting day for members and supporters alike.

With one of the largest entries for some time, the final was between two keen members, thought unlikely to reach so far in the contest. Stiff handicapping saw an enthralling final between Gig Garner and Mark Squires.

Veteran Garner took the first game with ease. This resulted in Squires changing tactics and obliging his older opponent to work harder. Squires came through as a close 2-1 winner.

The tournament was sponsored by local firm Datashredders, and the prizes were presented by Ed Lefevre, ably assisted by young son Harry.

Ed said: “The pre-Christmas handicap tournament is a club highlight. It was really good to see that the handicapping worked well, and gave everyone an equal chance of winning.”

Early in the new year the club is expected to invest in new heating and court refurbishment.

“We are one of the best supported clubs in Cambridgeshire and current league county champions,” said Julie Taylor, chair of the club. “Membership is rising and new members playing squash or racketball are warmly welcomed.”
