Wisbech beat Southill in Division One of the Cambs and Hunts Premier League

A strong batting display saw Wisbech Town return to winning ways in Division One of the Cambs & Hunts Premier League on Saturday.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat, opener Gary Freear was in sublime form with the bat, hitting 114 off 137 balls as the home side posted a huge total of 270-5.

Freear received excellent support from both Josh Bowers (31) and Jamie Seabrook (67 not out) with the latter's knock coming off 41 balls, including seven boundaries and four maximums.

Southill Park never looked chasing down the target and Freear continued a great afternoon by picking up 5-30 with the ball as the visitors fell 112 runs short.

March Town lifted themselves out of the relegation zone in Division Two with a much-needed six-wicket success at basement boys Stamford.

New Zealand allrounder Josh Fisher picked up three scalps with the ball as Stamford were bowled out for 182 and then made it look easy with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 59, to guide his side home.

In CCA Senior League Division One, Wisbech 2nds suffered a third defeat on the bounce with a 108-run reverse at Wilburton.

Opener bowler Pieter Jacobs was in sparkling form with the ball, returning the figures of 9.0-3-19-5 as Wilburton were dismissed for 270 in the 39th over.

Jacobs hit an 18-ball 52 with the bat, but he was the only visiting batsman to find their stride as Wisbech were dismissed for 162 in the 30th over.

Anthony Palmer claimed 3-9 with the ball and hit an unbeaten 38 as Chatteris recorded a seven-wicket win over Saffron Walden in Division Two.

Ben Hollis (51) and Peter Munns (40) also shone with the bat as Chatteris made light work of their victory target of 158.

March Town 2nds boosted their survival hopes with a 68-run win at home to mid-table Elmdon.

The hosts posted 282-6 in their 45 overs before Elmdon were bowled out for 212 in the final over.

Wisbech Town 3rds look set for the drop in Division Three North after a home defeat to Cambridge NCI 3rds.

Elliott Peck made 39 and Colin Freear 23 as Wisbech were skittled out for 119 with the visitors knocking off the runs after 25 overs.

In Division Four North, leaders Wimblington suffered only their third defeat of the season at home to Wilburton 2nds.

Chasing 140 for victory, Wimblington were surprisingly bowled out for 97, despite a half-century from opener Kris Judge.

There was no such problem for Chatteris 2nds, who moved out of the bottom two in the standings with a 165-run cruise at Cottenham 2nds.

The promotion hopes of Wisbech Town 4ths were dented as they suffered a six-wicket defeat to Longstanton Grasshoppers 2nds in Division Five North.

Wisbech were bowled out for 100 and, although Amrish Bhatt claimed 3-12 in the reply, Grasshoppers knocked off the runs inside 29 overs.
