Cup win sees March’s second string continue fine start to the new season
March Town United Reserves made it just one defeat in all competitions this season with a 1-0 victory over Histon Reserves in the William Cockell Memorial Cup.
Olly Belton rattled the bar early in the half and Taylor Harvey saw his low drive flash past the post.
The breakthrough finally arrived when Adam Mills closed the goalkeeper down and the ball fell to Harvey to fire home the winner.
After the game, Reserves boss Kieran Daplyn said: We reduced a Histon side to one shot on target in 95 minutes and managed the game really well against a low block.
"We can’t afford to keep missing this amount of chances in games."
It was a tough afternoon for Wisbech St Mary, who had Boston Cash sent-off in a 3-0 Premier Division defeat at league leaders Great Shelford.
Fenland sides continue to dominate the higher reaches of the table in 1B.

Outwell Swifts closed the gap on the Saints' second string to just one point with a 5-1 cruise at The Eagle.

In the North Cambs Junior Cup, a brace from Jesse Cowles saw March Town United A win the derby clash at Wisbech Acorns.
Jack Conyard, Toby Conyard and Kieran Warrener were all on target as March Town Academy progressed to the next stage with a 3-1 success at Whittlesey Athletic Development.
Wisbech St Mary Development A are also in the hat after a 5-0 win over Wisbech Town Reserves.
Wimblington Reserves also crashed out following a 5-2 home loss to Thorney.
Manea United had a home walkover over Leverington Sports Reserves who were unable to field a side in the same competition.
In 3B, fourth-placed Wisbech St Mary B suffered a 5-0 defeat on the road at Mepal and Sutton.
4C league leaders Brampton were too strong for Outwell Swifts Reserves with a 7-2 win and Chatteris Town A also went down 3-2 to Littleport Rangers despite a brace from Stanley Leach.
In the Peterborough Premier League, Whittlesey Athletic Reserves were 3-2 winners against Oakham United, but Leverington Sports were on the receiving end of a 10-0 home hammering by Deeping Rangers Reserves.
Jordan Keeble and Kieron McConnell both found the back of the net as Long Sutton Athletic continued their Division One promotion push with a 2-1 victory at Crowland Town Reserves.
In Division Two, Tydd won a tight affair against Sutton Bridge United. Matthew Cousins and Kyle Davis scored for the hosts and Jack Thomas replied for the visitors.
Jack Greenace registered a treble and Tyler Hagan (2) and Jack Baker were also on target as Long Sutton Athletic Reserves defeated Alconbury Weald 6-0.
Leverington Sports Development picked up their first win of the campaign, Lewis Stapleton scoring in a 1-0 home victory against Ketton Sports Black.
In the Cyril Ballyn Cup, Marshland Saints were 4-0 losers at Feltwell United.
