McClure leads fellow Wisbech Wheelers home

Top Wisbech time trial racer and triathlete Mat McClure showed that his 50 mile club record was no fluke as he led the three Wisbech Wheelers home on Saturday at Six Mile Bottom on the A11 in the Eastern Counties Cycling Association 10 mile open event.

He shrugged off the windy conditions and rounded the course in 21.01, followed home by Wisbech super vet, 73-year-old Roger Sewell with 24.14 and 60+ vet Tony Bye on 25.54. This was an excellent effort from someone who did not even start racing until he was in his sixties and who has been steadily improving ever since.

Veteran Phil Lee decided to go for the bigger distance on Sunday in the Cambridge CC 25 miler which boasted a full field and it was only because of good past performances that he qualified for inclusion in the event.
