Fenmen firsts.... recollections of Wisbech Town FC
1920: Through the local press a Mr Pierce proposed that a meeting be called at the town hall to form a town football club.
His reason was that the three clubs playing on Wisbech Park were not strong enough to win competitions against other local towns.
The three teams were Wisbech Working Men’s Conservative Club, who had the services of several St Augustine’s players and played in the Lynn & District League; Park Works and St Joseph’s, both playing that first season of organised football after WW1 in the Isle of Ely Junior League.
