Norwich Triathlon proves a real test for Three Counties Running Club members

Three Counties Running Club had three members in action at the annual Norwich Triathlon.

Cheryl Lenton, Zoe Gourley and Matt Hunter all lined up for the event, which the Tri-Anglia Triathlon Club organises.

Tri-Anglia is a voluntary-led club formed in 1992 to develop and promote the sport of triathlon in and around Norfolk and now boasts more than 600 members.

The event is held every year in either June or July at the stunning Whitlingham Country Park, Norwich.

Participants were able to register for up to three different events, the aquabike, sprint tri and standard tri distances.

The standard tri event contains the following disciplines.

A 1500m open water swim in the Whitlingham Broads was followed by a 38km cycle out of transition along Whitlingham Lane towards Trowse before heading out through the stunning South Norfolk roads.

Then into transition and put on the 10k run through the woods before taking the path around Whitlingham Broad for two laps, back onto the main field and into the finish.

The open-water swim was very rough, and the water was choppy.

There was also quite a bit of traffic during the cycle ride and the warmth of the day was increasing incredibly in time for the run.

Due to the high temperatures, it was compulsory not to wear wetsuits unless you was over the age of 60.

All three members had incredible races, especially as it was Gourley's first time at the distance.

Hunter completed the triathlon in a great total time of 3:06;33 including his transitions (swim 32:23, cycle 1:24:14 and run 1:05:35).

Gourley finished in a personal best time of 3:32:39 (swim 35:43, cycle 1:39:05 and run 1:12:46).

Lenton finished in a great total time of 3:50:55 (swim 45:10, cycle 1:42:41 and run 1:19:55).
