Victory for Parson Drove but defeats for March Town and Wisbech Town

March Town and Wisbech Town both suffered disappointing defeats yesterday, while Parson Drove pulled off their first win of the season.

Fourth-place March are now just two points clear of the teams chasing a United Counties Premier South play-off place with nine games remaining after they lost 3-2 at 12th-place Northampton Sileby Rangers.

Ben Fitzjohn gave Rangers a fifth-minute lead only for Josh Burrows to pull The Hares level 12 minutes later with his fifth goal of the campaign.

Luke Stevens made it 2-1 soon after the restart but Matthew Foy again levelled for the away team after 66 minutes with his 11th of the season. Lamin Jammeh sealed the win in the 74th minute.

On Tuesday evening March look to win a place in a second final this season when they entertain Histon in the Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup before a tough trip to third-place Rugby Borough on Saturday. The Hares are already through to the final of the Hinchingbrooke Cup.

In the United Counties Premier North, 16th-place Wisbech were thumped 6-2 at home by seventh-place Belper United.

Nicholas Hood and Samuel Birks put The Nailers 2-0 up within 17 minutes, Birks adding his second to make it 3-0 at the break.

Robert Conyard pulled one back for The Fenmen just after the restart but Birks completed his hat-trick to make it 4-1 after 52 minutes, sub Daniel Odunaiya made it five 20 minutes later and Tom Eccleshall scored a sixth before Conyard got his second of the game and his fifth in 12 games this season five minutes from the end.

With seven games remaining, Wisbech are eight points clear of the drop zone but have played more games than the teams below them and have now conceded 73 times in 31 games. And it won’t get any easier on Saturday when league leaders Eastwood are the visitors to Fountain Fresh Park.

Before the game, the club announced that Helkias Acheampong has signed, alongside playing for Kings Lynn U19s. And tenacious and energetic midfielder Alex Young joins after recently moving to the area.

Over in the Thurlow Nunn First Division North, tenth-place Parson Drove won for the first time in 2025, 2-0 at 12th-place Whitton United.

Goals came from Harrison Taylor and Stefano Cavozzi. On Saturday Drove have a local derby at home to eighth-place Holbeach United.
