OVER 300 volunteers will be donating their time at next month’s Perkins Great Eastern Run and people are still needed to come forward to help. The Perkins Great Eastern Run needs volunteers to work as marshals or man water stations on the route during the half marathon and fun run on Sunday October 14.
Local companies or groups are being targeted to man water stations as eight people are required to run these.
Those who haven’t volunteered before shouldn’t be put off as two marshal training dates have been organised in the lead-up to the race. The induction events will explain what will be expected of volunteers on the day and are being held on Thursday September 13 and Tuesday September 25 at 7.30pm at the Peterborough Athletics Track.
Most volunteers will be expected to meet at their pre-arranged assembly point on the route at around 9am on race day. Duties would include enforcing road closures, directing athletes, advising members of the public and explaining diversion routes. For giving up their time volunteers will receive a Ron Hill sports jacket and snacks provided by Sainsbury’s.
