Last weekend Alex Wilson (9) from Walpole St Andrew took part in the biggest boat wakeboard competition of the year.

He had a brilliant run landing all of his biggest tricks and is now National Wakeboard Champion for 2015 in groms (age under 10 category).

The Anthony Curton Primary School pupil also achieved a first place in the Riders League tour meaning that he will be tour champion in his age group for that tour and he is currently leading the AOD series with two stops to go.

Alex also takes part in cable wakeboarding and is hoping to do well at the cable nationals in two weeks’ time against some tough competition in the 11 and under category.

These are all great achievements considering that our nearest training lake, Tattershall Lakes in Lincolnshire, is over an hour away.

Alex first attempted wakeboarding in Summer 2013. In a relatively short space of time he has become competitive against children who started at a much younger age to him and who are older than him.

School have been very supportive of Alex and headteacher Mrs Senior has said: “School is very proud of Alex who is exceptionally gifted, and we are more than happy to support him and his family as he pursues his talent”.

Later this year Alex is hoping to attend the World Championships in Portugal.
