Walpole St Andrew youngster Wilson strikes world wakeboard junior gold
Alex Wilson (9) from Walpole St Andrew struck gold in Portugal at the WWA Boat Wakeboard World Championships.
The event was held over four days but he travelled out the week before to train at Mavern Wakeschool whose coach Brett Hodgkins helped him to fine tune his run.
The competition included both amateurs and professionals from around the world. Some of Alex’s idols were there and he was able to see them ride.
Alex was competing in the age 9 and unders category and he qualified for the finals with a very good score. In the final Alex had a really good run with a diverse range of tricks which made him stand out and he managed to win his group making him Junior Beginner World Champion 2015.
He attends Anthony Curton Primary School in Walpole St Andrew. Headteacher Mrs Senior has been very supportive. Alex first tried wakeboarding in summer 2013. He practises at Tattershall Lakes and has some coaching from Lee Debuse at LDB Wakeschool in Chertsey.
