Wisbech and West Norfolk Rugby Clubs join forces to field Wildcats team

The Wisbech Wildcats kicked off their Eastern Counties 2 West league campaign with a tough away fixture against a strong Cambridge III side.

In what was a special day for all concerned, the game marked the Wildcats' first league game since Covid.

Despite a spirited performance and tries from Liam Hind, Ricky Harnwell and Shaun Mowbray, along with a successful conversion by Olly Murdoch, the Wildcats were unable to overturn the home side’s dominance, eventually falling to a 41-17 defeat.

Elgoods Man of the Match honours went to Shaun Mowbray, whose determined play and try-scoring effort stood out in a challenging contest.

The Wildcats will be eager to bounce back this Saturday as they return to Harecroft Road for their second league match.

They host the Fenland Barbarians, a combined side from Ely and March.

Kick-off is at 3pm and the team will be looking to put in a strong performance in front of the home crowd.
