Wimblington’s Eldred hits ton in vain

Wimblington and Wisbech shared over 400 runs in Sunday’s Fenland Trophy opener at Harecroft Road.

Batting first Wisbech made 232 with 18-year-old Tom Buck making 92 for the hosts, including some huge sixes, whilst Joseph Dunning contributed a useful 40 in the lower order.

Young spinner Jack Stevens was the pick of the Wimblington bowlers returning figures of 4-43.

In reply Wimblington managed to make 207, with Marc Eldred hitting 100. Both sides fielded many promising youngsters as well as some older heads.

Parkfield will see a friendly between sides from the club and village on Saturday whilst a mixed friendly side will host Wilburton on Sunday.

The first team start their Division 3 campaign on Saturday, May 2, whilst the seconds begin a week later.
