Wins for March Town and Wisbech Town and points on the road for Whittlesey Athletic and Parson Drove
After several seasons of struggles, things are looking up for Wisbech Town, who are in the United Counties Premier North play-off positions after a fifth win in eight games this season.
Two goals from Luke Harris saw the fifth-place Fenmen beat struggling Melton Town 2-0 at Fountain Fresh Park this afternoon, their fourth league home win in five games.
Both goals for Luke Hipwell’s men came in the first half, Harris netting his fourth goal in eight games after 26 minutes and scoring his fifth in added-on time.
Wisbech are just one point behind leaders Grantham Town and have played a game less.
In the United Counties Premier South, there was also victory for March Town, who are now eighth and a point from the play-off places with a couple of games in hand after a good 1-0 win at Atherstone United.
In a tightly-contested game, Lewis Hilliard’s sixth goal of the season in just ten games won the points for Ash Taylor’s Hares.
Over in the Thurlow Nunn First Division North, Parson Drove are up to sixth and level on points with Stanway Pegasus in the final play-off place after a 2-2 draw at Long Melford.
The Suffolk side took a first-half lead, but Jay Mead equalised just before the break. Melford went 2-1 up in the second period but Mead then netted again with his sixth goal in six games this season.
In the same division, Whittlesey Athletic also gained a point on the road and are 13th after nine games following a 1-1 draw at 14th-place Gorleston Reserves.
