The Wisbech Wheelers course record was smashed on Sunday in the East District 25 mile Championships run on the Wisbech course which, although flat, is not fast and requires constant effort with no recovery.

Felix Barker of Cambridge University CC powered round in 50.36 and took the overall honours and the fastest lady was Jennifer Smart of VC Norwich whose 1.00.34 was just a handful of seconds away from the standing cash prize for a new women’s record.

Veteran, Charlie Nurse of North Norfolk Wheelers, took second in 52.18 which netted him first place in the District Championship, and unseeded rider Ed Porteus of St Neots CC caused a stir with his 52.51 which gave him third overall.

Light winds meant good times and on Wednesday evening the Wisbech triathletes showed their TT prowess in the Breckland ‘10’ with a pb of 20.42 for Mat McClure and another for Becky Hamilton in 25.17, who made it a double at the weekend with 1.06.39 for the 25 miles – but the ride of the week goes to Roger Sewell, of Hull, riding for the Team Swift 10 mile promotion on the same evening and recorded a new pb of 21.29 at the age of 69.
