The recent French race from Carentan, held in conjunction with the Midland National Flying Club, saw pigeon fanciers flying the flag for Wisbech.

The ‘Bucksholt Racing Lofts’, owned by Stewart McCurry – pictured right – of the S & T McCurry partnership of Walsoken, were too hot for rest of the competition.

Their game racing hen dropped in from the 241 mile event at a speed of 47 mph to win for its owners.

The results were 1st Wisbech & District SRFC, 1st Fen Federation, 1st ESE Section MNFC and 20th Open Midland National Flying Club against several thousand birds from all parts of the UK.

For good measure the Bucksholt Lofts had birds in third, fourth, sixth, ninth and 11th places in the Wisbech result that will figure high up in the Fed and National placings.

Other results: 2nd, 5th and 7th the Guyhirn-based lofts of Shawn and Lisa Bowles (these will also take high Federation placings); Les Papp of Newton 8th place; Willy & Cathy Beckett of Emneth 10th spot.
