Wisbech Town CC need to beat local rivals March Town to land the Cambs Tucker title on the final day of the season on Saturday.

Alan Burton’s men carry an eight-point lead over second place Ramsey, who are on 389 points, going into the away clash at March at the Avenue.

Last weekend Wisbech missed out on the chance to wrap up the championship after they lost at home to fifth-spot Castor & Ailsworth by six wickets.

March, who have slipped down to seventh place on 284 points, are keen to end a disappointing campaign on a high note.

Their skipper Chris Ringham said: “We’ve struggled this year simply because we are playing teams that aren’t really local.

“But as this is a local derby and there is a lot riding on it, we’ll be up for it.

“I can’t think of a better way of ending the season.”

Against Castor, Wisbech posted 181. Top scorer Gary Freear narrowly missed out on a half century by one run, while Alan Burton scored 31, James Williams 32, Simon Freear 19 and Bradley Perrett 17. Ex-March player Rob Woolley took 3-73.

Craig Johnson bore the brunt of the bowling with 1-80 off 16 overs as Castor chased down the target with 182-4 in 35.5 overs. Perrett took 1-39 and Gary Freear 1-21.
