Wisbech Ladies 2nds 4 Pelicans 1

Wisbech gained confidence from remaining solid at the back, playing some of their best hockey of the season.

Megan Fey deflected in Jodi Pegg’s short corner strike.

After half-time Hannah Strickle, Gilly Dunn and Sue Robinson scored in a fantastic team performance and the 2nds are now out of the relegation zone before their away game at Cambs City.

Wisbech hoped to maintain their strong league position on Saturday but it wasn’t to be their day.

Cambridge scored an early goal and Wisbech were caught on the break to go into half-time 3-0 down.

The second half was a much better performance. The result means Wisbech drop to fifth in the table, however they have a game in hand.

Next: home to Norwich City, 1pm.

Wisbech had a lot of shots but could not get past the goalkeeper.

Claire Apted’s dive at the far post turned in Sophie Culshaw’s perfectly placed ball.

Wisbech stepped up a gear in the second half and some brilliant attacking play was finished off by Apted.

Laura Overland grabbed a third goal, to sail through to the final eight.

The ladies take on high-flying Norwich City next weekend in the league, at Harecroft Road, 1pm.

Wisbech were soon under pressure to in-form March, who scored four early goals.

A Jamie Gollands brace made it 4-2. In the second half March were just too strong.
