Wisbech rider Kierman in second spot as TT season kicks off

The local cycling TT season was off to a flying start on Sunday morning with the Wisbech Wheelers open 10-mile event.

Fastest on the course was veteran TT specialist John Surtees of the SSLL Racing Team, who dodged the variable road surfaces to lay down an impressive 21.47 for the distance.

Second rider home was local road racer and track star Jason Kierman, riding for St Ives CC, with 22.00 and third was Lawrence Wright of Velovelocity in 22.07.

The ladies were led home by Wendy Gooding of the St Ives club in 27.15, taking the 50-59 category into the bargain. Six seconds later was winner of the 40-49 group Sally Withey of Team Swift in 27.21 and third was Wisbech Wheeler Rebecca Hamilton, also in the 40-49 group, with 28.03.

The men’s 40-49 group was taken by Matthew Senter of Peterborough CC, in 22.15.

50 -59 winner was David Proctor of King’s Lynn CC in 23.09 and 60+ winner was Roger Sewell of Long Sutton, who sticks with his old club of Hounslow & District and recorded 24.53.

Will Day of Wisbech was the fastest junior in 25.45 and the team event was won by Wheelers Mat McClure, Doug McClure and John Talbot.
