Wisbech Round Table was pleased to be able to donate £500 to Wisbech Town Cricket Club to support their Community Cricket Week which runs from August 11-15.
The week, including youth cricket coaching in the day and family events and fixtures in the evenings, climaxes on the Friday with matches for all of the young cricketers, plus the club’s junior presentation event at Harecroft Road.
Round Table chairman Jason Bishop said that they were delighted to be able to support the town’s cricket club as it runs a full coaching programme and provides opportunities for age group cricket throughout the year for over 100 Wisbech youngsters from age six to 16.
Two of the age-group teams have just completed unbeaten league seasons, the under 11s successfully retained the CYCA A U11 league title and the U14s have secured the CYCA A U15 league.
n Cambs Tucker League leaders Wisbech CC 1st had the better of a draw with Godmanchester on Saturday.
Wisbech posted 215-5 off 48 overs and felt this was a good score on a difficult track. Wisbech lost the toss and openers Danny Haynes and Jamie Gollands both went for 0.
However the next batsmen all contributed. Gary Freear included 7 fours and 1 six in his 74 from 105 balls, captain Alan Burton added 63 with 9 fours off 95 balls and Josh Bowers was 47 not out.
Godmanchester ended up on 147-6 in 41 overs. The three main bowlers were Brad Apted 11-1-33-0, Samuel Rippington 14-2-50-4 and James Williams 8-1-27-2.
