Wisbech skater Flynn wins special award


Twelve Wisbech Inline Speed Skaters brought home medals and trophies from the British Indoor Inline Speed Skating Championships at the weekend at Maldon in Essex.

Team coach Mike McInerney eased to victory in the Masters Men’s time trials, 500m & 1500m races, bringing home three gold medals. Daughter Eve won silver medals in all three of her events after close-fought battles with rival Maya Bathgate from South Woodham Ferrers.

Oli Johnson gained a well-earned bronze in his first junior boys’ event. Young Arthur Buckler brought home bronze for his first-ever British Champs event as did Ladies Master Jo Tidman. Flynn McGurk won bronze in the 300m and silver in the 800m with a fourth place time trial.

Other participants included Dylan Taylor, James and Jonathan Garwell, James and Warren Eve and Nathan Steele.

McGurk (12) was also presented with the trophy for ‘Most Promising Young Skater of 2015’ after just over a year of speed skating.

VIP guest and British Superbike rider Danny Buchan presented the medals and trophies.
