Wisbech suffer a bad day at the office

Wisbech Town had a bad day at the office on Saturday for their first and second teams.

Their Tucker League title-chasing first team’s bowling lacked penetration against Godmanchester Town, for whom Matthew Pateman scored 111 not out.

Wisbech captain Alan Burton said: “We were never in the game. We bowled, fielded and batted poorly.

“It’s back to the drawing board. We have got to beat St Ives at home next Saturday.”

The thirds put in a much better performance with the ball to continue their surge up the table

On Sunday senior batsman Gary Freear was called up late to help out with the seconds, batted down at seven but helped post a par score of 221.

The game was in the balance right up to four overs remaining when a couple of run outs decided the
