Wisbech Town FC notched an important win in their bid to move clear of the Evo-Stik Northern League Division One East relegation zone.

The Fenmen registered a 3-1 away win at Loughborough Dynamo on Saturday.

The visitors forged a 2-0 half-time lead with a lob from captain Jon Fairweather after five minutes and Toby Hilliard struck from close range five minutes later.

Eoin McQuaid’s 62nd-minute free-kick restored the two-goal advantage after Dynamo had pulled a goal back from the spot two minutes after the break.

Wisbech are up to 14th on 24 points, with four points separating them from 20th-spot basement side Stocksbridge Park Steels, who the Fenmen drew with last week.

Wisbech move on to AFC Mansfield next Saturday as they continue a five-match league away run, topped off by a visit to Ely City in the Cambs Invitation Cup on February 12.

Meanwhile, St Mary boss Joe Simpson Tweeted: "Football can be a very frustrating game but sometimes you have to step back to see there’s been huge progress made on and off the pitch the last few weeks.

"Performances are improving and the squads getting bigger. We will get this right 100% ."

Next Saturday (19) Saints have a 'six-pointer' home derby with fellow strugglers King's Lynn Town Reserves, who are a place and a point below them.
