Wisbech Town host A47 weekend derby with King’s Lynn
Wisbech Town FC boss Dick Creasey is looking forward to locking horns with old adversaries King’s Lynn Town at the weekend.
The Fenmen host the Linnets at the Elgoods Stadium on Saturday as Wisbech fans get the first glimpse of their new-look squad on home soil.
Creasey said: “It will be a big test for us with King’s Lynn bringing a full first-team squad with them.
“It will give us an idea of exactly where we are against a very good King’s Lynn side.
“Setch (Gary Setchell) has done an excellent job there. He has been there since the club were reformed.
“He has won a couple of promotions and built it up gradually from there. I’m sure he’d like to take Lynn up to Step Two.
“It is a bigger game for the fans than it is for us. There has always been that big rivalry between the two sets of supporters and as long as it’s friendly banter that’s good.”
Creasey was due to take a 22-man squad to Pinchbeck for the club’s first summer run-out last night. The game was switched at the request of Pinchbeck.
He is unlikely to make any further additions to his squad before the weekend, although a couple of trialists were due to feature last night and could play a part against King’s Lynn on Saturday.
The Fenmen have been handed tough draws in both the FA Cup and FA Vase.
They will travel to Boston Town in the Extra Preliminary Round on August 6 and, if successful there, will host Peterborough Sports or Gorleston at the Elgoods Stadium two weeks later.
In the FA Vase, the Fenmen will entertain Mildenhall Town and former striker Chris Bacon on September 10 with Peterborough Sports travelling to the winners a fortnight after.
“You have to take what you have been drawn,” said Creasey.
“There’s no good dwelling on it. We have got difficult draws in both competitions.
“Peterborough Sports manager Jimmy Dean called me on Friday, it’s not what he wanted either really.
“It isn’t ideal with the FA Cup being our first competitive game of the season.
“We will have to do our homework and make sure we are ready.”
