Senter dominates cycling East District 25-mile Championships

Matthew Senter of Team Velovelocity showed his dominance in the East District 25-mile Championships held on the Wisbech Wheelers course.

He bagged a winning time of 51.47, shrugging off the strong SW breeze.

Senter – a regular visitor to Wisbech TTs – has taken a string of victories and course records this year and has taken over as the man to beat from team mates Ben Stanscombe in second on 52.13, and Daniel Bloy who was joint third along with top seed Harley Matthews of D A P Cycling Club in 53.01 thereby preventing a total clean sweep of the medals by Velovelocity. Wisbech Wheelers’ lady vet, Becky Murley, after taking the ladies course record in the Breckland ‘10’ on the A11 near Attleborough on Thursday evening, was pipped for first place overall by visiting rider Rebecca Johnson of Fusion R T Veloperformance on 58.29, but Murley’s time of 1.00.20 was good enough for first in the Area Championships.

In the Tandem event against no opposition 60+ Paul Sims on his renovated track tandem of a similar age, teamed up with ‘stoker’ 50+ Carl Murley to take the Tandem victory.

But the fixed single gear meant that all the riders they passed on the hard headwind sections came sailing past on giant gears with the wind behind. Sims and Murley complained afterwards that if they had pedalled any faster their legs would have come unbolted!
