Wisbech Town Hockey Club has set up a new Young Leaders initiative.

U18 members who have already been through the club’s development process are now passing on their knowledge, supporting younger players, organising fixtures, umpiring and assisting coaching the clubs ever-growing junior section.

From the age of 13, juniors are able to make the step up to adult league hockey and for some this can be a daunting process and one of the things this new initiative will do is make this transition a smoother one.

All the young leaders play in the adult leagues teams and cover a range of positions. Some have also gone on to gain qualifications, enabling them to umpire league level matches, which is a great achievement and an invaluable asset to the club.

They are all giving their time and experience voluntarily and the club really appreciates all they are able to offer in this role.

Recently, there was an inter-club match involving 20 of its young members from their U12 and U14 teams.
