Taylor Barker and Arthur Buckler take clean sweep of firsts in their two races
Wisbech Inline Speed Skaters re-visited Birmingham for another outdoor race event.
Temperatures soared but the depleted team of nine outshone their competitors.
Youngsters Taylor Barker and Arthur Buckler took a clean sweep of first places in each of their two races in Cat 4 and 3 respectively, Arthur showing his true racing pedigree after he moved up a category to join skaters of a higher ability.
He also finished in first place in his half-mile race, with Taylor finishing in second. Siblings Leah and Kirby Barker finished each of their races in third and second respectively, while Leah also picked up a first place win in her age category race, skating with others of the same age.
Warren Eve and Flynn McGurk showed excellent progress this year and have now been moved up to the highest and most competitive Cat 1 group, racing alongside coach and veteran skater, Mike McInernery.
Flynn finished a very respectable third place in the 500m race and took a first place win in the youth boys’ 1-mile. Warren sadly crashed out of the same race, but after the heavy fall, he managed to get back up and finish the race to come home in fifth place. His brother, James, impressed once again by winning his age category 1-mile race and finished in overall third place in his Cat 2 races.
Mike took two second places in the Cat 1 races, and won the 1 mile race.
The team will tackle the Flanders Grand Prix in Belgium in August and then the Marathon races held in London at the end of the month.
