Organisers of new Fenland Bus Show to be held in Whittlesey will offer free trips for visitors
Organisers are hoping the public will jump on board a new event coming to a Fenland town later this summer.
The Fenland Bus Show is being staged in Whittlesey on June 8 and organisers are excited with the plans already in place.
Matt Page, one of the leading organisers, explained the new event was born following the news towards the end of last year that the annual BusFest normally held in Whittlesey has been cancelled.
He said the initiative stems from a collective effort of a group of original organisers of BusFest – all of them passionate bus enthusiasts and bus owners.
Matt said: “We want to bring back this premier event and encourage a love of these historic vehicles within our community.”
The event has already garnered quite a lot of interest from other bus owners keen to get involved from across the country.
Matt added: “The Fenland Bus Show is designed to be a unique and inclusive event for all ages.
“We plan to incorporate innovative ideas that will ensure it becomes a major attraction and a popular fixture in the area’s calendar.
“We want to attract visitors not just from Fenland but from across the country. An influx of visitors will hopefully help local businesses including our shops and restaurants and give a boost to the town’s economy.”
On top of all this, the organisers are hoping that people will literally get on board and enjoy a series of bus tours and trips. These will include a free bus ride to and from Ramsey which will be hosting its annual Fen Fair on the same day.
Matt said other trips could include a ride to Hunstanton and a tour around the Fens that takes in places like Parson Drove where there will also be an event for people to enjoy.
Among the free trips is the Wings and Words Bus Trip which will take travellers to an historic American airbase with tales of the brave servicemen and women told along the way.
Storytellers will be on board some of the buses, and there will also be free showings of films that feature buses including reels loaned from London Transport.
Matt said: “We are basically celebrating everything about buses and we really hope that people will come along and enjoy looking at all the vehicles on show – we hope to have as many 35 here on the day – among them is the tour bus used by the iconic band The Who – who wouldn’t want to have a glimpse at that?2
