The Angles Theatre in Wisbech putting on a production of Matilda Jr with sell-out audiences
A sell-out production at a town theatre will be a fitting way to end weeks of hard work for one performance group.
Forty performers, seven performances, and tickets all sold out weeks in advance – clearly, the people of Fenland can’t wait to go back to school at The Angles Theatre for its in-house youth group’s production of Matilda Jr.
With song, dance, and stunning stage effects and costumes, they are re-creating their own version of the musical, which has also been made into a hit film.
Performances are getting under way today, and will run until a final show this Saturday.
Jo Sherry, co-director, said: “We had 92 children audition, ranging from age nine to 18, and the standard of all of the auditions was amazing – making our job to cast the show so difficult.”
Rebecca Phillips-Bartlett, the co-director, added: “The cast have worked so incredibly hard and more importantly have had fun throughout - that really shows in their performances.”
The Angles Theatre is a charity run entirely by volunteers offering young people a chance to train and perform in Fenland’s only working theatre.
They offer classes in theatre and dance from the age of two-years-old, incorporating performances and internationally recognised qualifications.
Their next major production will be of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, which will be performed in October.
They are currently looking for creative partners to help create this unforgettable show.
