Wisbech schoolgirl Shyla Brown organises fundraising colour run
A young girl has organised a fundraising event to help the family of a classmate make memories together.
Shyla Brown, who is 10 years old, has organised a colour run – all by herself – on Sunday at 2.30pm at Newton In The Isle Playing Field.
The Peckover Primary School pupil came up with this idea after speaking to her Year 10 friend Kenzie, whose mum Kim Tarbie has a brain tumour.
After asking what she could do to make things better and being told there was nothing, Shyla asked her own mum for ideas.
Her mum, Blair Simpson, said: “Shyla came home and asked me what we could do. At the time, I didn't know the person, so I was not sure what the situation was.
“I spoke to a mutual friend who confirmed the situation, and she introduced me to the mum.
“Shyla asked if we could do something fun as she has an extreme challenge coming up soon, so we wanted to make it nice for everyone to get involved with.”
The pair came up with the idea of a colour run, for which all the money raised will go to the family so they can make some lovely memories together.
Entry to the event, which is being sponsored by Paragon Motor Company, is £5 per person, and there will be burgers and ice cream available.
