New Walpole Highway driver Steven Harris has licence revoked after speeding away from police on quad bike

An 18-year-old new driver who was riding an uninsured quad bike while ignoring the police’s requests to pull over has had his licence revoked.

Steven Harris, of Lynn Road in Walpole Highway, appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, where he admitted failing to stop and driving without insurance.

On March 22, Harris was seen driving the quad bike on The Avenue in Wiggenhall St Mary, he was not insured to ride the vehicle on a public road.

The police were called to the area and activated their blue lights, indicating for Harris to pull over.

However, Harris “accelerated away at speed” and made no attempt to pull over.

A police pursuit was carried out, and Harris was found and arrested around two miles away from where he was originally seen.

Harris had no previous convictions.

In mitigation, the court heard Harris thought his car insurance would cover him when riding the quad bike.

His solicitor described him as being the “breadwinner for his family”.

A statement was read out in court from his grandad, who Harris works for.

He described Harris as a “hardworking young man” and that the offence was “totally out of character”.

“He is extremely remorseful. He is quite mature for his age,” his solicitor added.

A total of six points have been added to Harris’ driving licence, meaning he will now have his driving licence revoked due to him being a new driver.

Harris was also fined £80 and ordered to pay a £32 victim surcharge and £45 in court costs.
