A right Royal party at Wimblington
Families enjoyed an afternoon fit for a Queen when Wimblington celebrated Her Majesty’s 90th birthday. The village’s Christmas Lights Group organised a family beetle drive and afternoon tea at the Village Hall to mark the special occasion earlier this month. More than 50 people attended the event, called an Afternoon fit for a Queen, and £296 was raised for the village’s Christmas lights fund. On the day, residents enjoyed eight games of beetle and traditional English fare including finger sandwiches, scones with jam and cream, an array of cakes and Cambridgeshire strawberries and cream, all washed down with a glass of Pimms.
Christmas Lights Group member and DJ Simon Knight compered the afternoon, provided music, and organised for the coverage of the Queen’s Patrons Lunch celebrations to be shown on a big screen. He also got everybody to join in a sing along and, of course, a rousing version of Happy Birthday and The National Anthem.
Organisers said they were “overwhelmed” with the number of people who rallied to help, and thanked the army of volunteer bakers who supported them with their yummy goods. • Patriotic trio Chrissie Sibley, Pat Hart and Margaret Moulton are pictured at the event. Photo: SUPPLIED
