A world of support and fun

A Welcome 2 Our World session
A Welcome 2 Our World session

Welcome 2 Our World is a family support group organising fun sessions throughout 2016.

The sessions are for any families where a child or young person within the family has a Special Educational Need and/or Disability.

The project is being delivered in partnership with Living Sport and supported by Comic Relief local communities funding via Cambridgeshire Community Foundation.

The sports club started in January and has now engaged 40 families, helping many where a child has Autistic Spectrum disorders but welcomes anybody to come along and enjoy.

Thanks to support from Fenland District Council the sessions will be held at New Vision Fitness the Hudson Centre Wisbech every fortnight on Saturdays, 4pm-6pm. There are lots of activities on offer for everyone to enjoy participating in together.

Sessions alternate between using the sports hall and the swimming pools, each session also has the use of the soft play area, as well as the sensory room. In the sports hall there will be many different activities including trampolining, cricket, football and fun games.

Welcome 2 Our World aims to offer activities and support for the whole family. Parents must stay at the sessions and are responsible for their children at all times. Activities will also be a chance for families to meet others in similar circumstances and give support to each other.

Jayne Denby, chair of Welcome 2 Our World, has worked hard over the last two years to get this project off the ground.

Many families across Fenland have contributed to the development of this exciting project with the help of Living Sport, Cambridgeshire Community Foundation and Fenland District Council.

It demonstrates how working together can deliver opportunities for the whole family to participate in sport and give each young person, whatever their level of Special Educational Need or disability, the chance to gain from the many benefits participating in sport.

The next session is on Saturday and the main sports will be cricket and table cricket, alongside soft play and sensory room.

Sessions cost £6 for every child with a Special Education Needs or Disability and £1 for every sibling. Parents or carers are free. To join the sessions families need to become members of Welcome 2 Our World. For more details or to sign up contact Jayne Denby at jayne.denby1@ btopenworld.com or call 01945 410071.

If any sports coaches or providers would like to offer to deliver sessions, please also contact Jayne.
