The Bridge Buns and Roses WI organises community afternoon tea at Curlew Centre in Sutton Bridge
Villagers enjoyed a sell-out afternoon tea and entertainment organised by a community group.
The Bridge Buns and Roses Women’s Institute put on the event in The Curlew Centre in Sutton Bridge to help ease loneliness in the area.
Some 90 guests enjoyed tucking into refreshments made by the group and enjoyed a performance by Sandra Whatling at the event, which was funded by a donation from Port Sutton Bridge.
June Drew, president, said: “It is to help people in the area who may be lonely.
“It means they get out and have something to look forward to.
“Lots of ladies live on their own and it helps with loneliness.”
Previously the popular event has had financial help from Sutton Bridge Parish Council and the Coop Community Champions Fund.
Afternoon tea consisted of the usual cream tea with sandwiches, cakes and scones.
June added: “There are some very good bakers among the committee.
“The event sold out very quickly.
“People paid a nominal ticket fee and there was a raffle.”
The group started the event in 2019 until they were interrupted by the Covid 19 pandemic and it returned in 2022.
