Updated: Emergency school closures due to coronavirus (COVID-19) in Fenland

Five Fenland schools are among a list of schools that have taken the decision to close from today (Wednesday).

The College of West Anglia has also been included on a list published on Cambridgeshire County Council's website, but the college is in fact OPEN.

The Neale-Wade Academy in March and Sir Harry Smith at Whittlesey are among the secondary school closed, while Townley at Christchurch closed from yesterday (Tuesday) lunchtime.

Also closed is Kinderley Primary School in Tydd St Giles and Wisbech Unity Special Academy is partially closed from today.

The full list of those school affected across the county - currently standing at 20 - is available on Cambridgeshire County Council's website.

A statement on the website said: "Schools are currently working hard to remain open in line with government guidance. We want to reassure parents that they will they will remain open where it is safe to do so that students can continue to take part in lessons.

"Closures and partial closures are on a case by case basis and we are continuing to monitor the situation and will work with all schools to offer support and guidance. Any schools that do close are likely to remain closed until Easter at this point in time.

"The decision to close a school is made by the school's head teacher. Schools should communicate the closure on their own websites and inform staff / parents by directly through email or text message.

"If informed of a closure by the head teacher, we will publish the school's name in the list below.

"Some schools in Cambridgeshire are taking precautionary measures with regards to coronavirus. These are all on a case-by-case basis. Some have closed for cleaning after advice given by the NHS, some have partial closures as only part of the school is affected and others have been affected by teacher absences."
