A youngster has been left devastated after his horse gear was stolen in the run-up to a fundraiser for a six-year-old with cancer.

Kodie Missin, 6, from Emneth, will be riding his pony Coco for 12 miles on November 25 to raise money for Hunter Martin, who has been diagnosed with the blood cancer lymphoma – and is part of the same Wisbech St Mary FC family as Kodie’s brother Jack.

After announcing the fundraising ride last week, on Monday morning, the yard in Walton Highway where his pony is kept was broken into and many items belonging to Kodie were stolen. These included a cart, along with headcollars, rugs, saddles, bridles, wheelbarrows, lights to a horse box and other sentimental objects.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help raise money to replace the items missing for Kodie.

Stacie Read, Kodie’s mother, said: “He is devastated. He absolutely sobbed, he was in school crying.

“He kept on asking, ‘But can I still ride for Hunter?’

“Someone has donated a saddle.”

Kodie is still going ahead with the fundraiser because he is desperate to raise some money for Hunter as they are the same age. He said: “If I get some money I can make him better.”

People wishing to donate for the 12-mile ride fundraiser can send money via Paypal using Stacie’s email at stacie.read1987@gmail.com or via bank transfer.

All money raised will be paid into the GoFundMe page for Hunter.

Hunter has had an operation and is now in the midst of six months of intensive treatment – but that has not stopped the plucky youngster from wanting to kick a football about.

Wisbech St Mary FC has also been raising money for his cause.
