Ann notches up 35 years with Wisbech company

A dedicated woman has notched up 35 years of service with a Wisbech company. Ann Smith first began to work for Mervyn and Anne Sargeant on February 11, 1980, and more than three decades later her long service was celebrated.

Mrs Smith first started her employment as a hairdresser at the Hair By Mervyn salon in Hill, Street, Wisbech, before being promoted to manageress when the salon moved to Stermyn Street.

In 1997 Mr and Mrs Sargeant decided to close their salon to start up Hair World UK, a wholesale and retail wig business which is now based in Algores Way, with their daughters Keeley and Vicki.

Mrs Smith remained with the company and retrained as a wig fitter. She now fits wigs for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy or losing their due to Alopecia.

Mrs Smith holds a regular clinic at Peterborough City Hospital. Mrs Sargeant said: “Ann is a remarkable member of our staff who does her utmost to help our business thrive and has really become part of our family. Apart from maternity leave, Ann has only been off work due to illness twice in 35 years and her loyalty and dedication has been amazing.” Ann Smith, centre, is presented with a bouquet by Vicki and Keeley Sargeant PICTURE: ADAM FAIRBROTHER mfcp15af02106
