Appeal for volunteers as Fenland GPs prepare to start their vaccination programme
Two Fenland GP practices have issued appeals for volunteers as they begin to roll out the covid vaccine to patients.
Fenland Group Practice, which covers Manea, Doddington, Wimblington, Ramsey and Sutton, has announced it has partnered with other surgeries and is due to start its covid vaccination programme at Doddington Hospital next week.
In an online social media post the practice explained the programme will be operating 12 hours a day - 8am to 8pm - and advised patients they will be contacted by phone with an appointment.
People should NOT contact the surgery to make an appointment.
It also said: "We are kindly asking any businesses who would like to offer donations to the queues of likely cold patients (and hard working staff / volunteers) warm drinks/snacks, to please contact our social prescriber Cat Carman, who is co-ordinating volunteers - we would like to spread out any kind offers!
"Or if you work at a Supermarket who would like to donate packs of small bottled water for our post vaccination waiting room?
"Additionally if you would like to volunteer time - can offer 4hrs, comfortable managing any physical tasks like standing for long periods or possibly being outside, then please email your phone number to Cat as well listing any specific times/days you can do."
Email: email@example.com - please email as the practice's receptionists are extremely busy at the moment.
The George Clare Surgery at Chatteris has made a similar appeal for volunteers to support the vaccination programme over the coming months explaining the role will involve co-ordinating car parking, greeting patients and helping to observe patients following vaccination.
Its social media post adds: "This is not appropriate for anyone who is shielding and you will be on your feet and expected to move between the roles.
"To register your interest contact the surgery and ask to speak to Mary Hutson, social prescriber."
