Labrador, beagle, King Charles spaniel and dachshund all make American Kennel Club’s list of naughtiest breeds
The 10 most mischievous dog breeds have been declared – but did your pet make the list?
The American Kennel Club has picked out 10 dogs that its experts believe might have the personality traits to be some of the naughtiest canines worldwide.
Whether it’s their tendency to chew your favourite trainers or their cheeky behaviour in the park, they have selected 10 dog breeds that are most likely to enjoy a bit of mischief making.
Its survey put the labrador at the top of the list in first place.
Described as ‘high spirited’ and an ‘enthusiastic athlete’ - the AKC’s advice is that the labrador is a breed that requires a lot of energy from dedicated owners to keep it both mentally and physically fit.
The same can also be said for the beagle, which in second place was a dog breed described as ‘energetic hounds who require plenty of playtime’.
The late Queen’s favourite – the Pembroke Welsh Corgi – came in third place seemingly well known equally for their intelligence as much as their stubborn streak.
The King Charles spaniel, Jack Russell terrier and dachshund all made the middle of the table before border collies bounced-in at eighth place, followed by cocker spaniels in ninth.
And it was the golden retriever – described as energetic and joyous by the AKC – that took the final place in the list.
However it is good news for prospective dog owners who may be considering any of the breeds in the top 10 – as the Kennel Club acknowledges that with the correct environment and training all the dogs have the potential to become model pooches.
However it does advise any potential pet owners to do their research properly with breeds they may be considering in order to take home an animal that will be a good fit for themselves, their family and lifestyle.
And help is at hand on this side of the Atlantic for anyone in need of some dog training advice – thanks to the UK’s own Kennel Club which has sections of its website dedicated to dog training.
From how to best find accredited instructors to attending puppy classes, the site is full of information for dog owners and applies to those with both new pets or older animals that may need to brush-up on their obedience skills.
